Kargil Vijay Diwas

 

Introduction

            Kargil war was fought between 3 May 1999 – 26 July 1999 in the Kargil along the line of control (LOC) in which India got a victory.

जिस पथ जावें वीर अनेक"

 

Events of War

1.      Year 1999 - India and Pakistan signed the Lahore agreement to mutually resolve the Kashmir Issue in Peaceful Manner.

2.      Operationo Badr – Pakistan army launched operation Badr along LOC, they want to cut off Indian troops in Saiachin.

3.      Operation Vijay – Indian army responded by launching operation Vijay to retaliated and throw back the intruders who treacherously occupied Indian.

·       On 4th July Indian army captured Tiger Hill after a battle that lasted 11 hour.

 

Impact of Kargil war

1.      Internationally Pakistan was losing face because due to the proof of army involvement in war.

2.      India was praised for showing amazing restraint by not crossing the Line of control (LOC).

3.      Countries supported India on the conflict –

·       G8

·       EU

·       ASEAN

 

Importance of Kargil war

1.      Policy of restraint & resolve appreciated by International community.

2.      Pakistan intrusion in kargil was a betrayal of trust especially after Lahore Decleration in Feburary 1999.

3.      Pakistan intrusion has effect that still it not able to emerge  from indignity.

4.      With the backing of IAF. Indian army achieved a feat which would be hard for any of the armies around the world.
