Conjunctivitis (आँख आना)

 

Information

            Conjunctivitis also known as pink eye, is an infection or inflammation of the transparent membrane that cover the eyelid and eyeball this membrane is called conjunctiva.

 

Transmission

Through Direct and Indirect contact.

·         Direct Transmission – Through droplets of the cough, or sneeze of an infected person. (Hand to eye contact)

·         Indirect Transmission – It can spread via shared personal items like towels, makeup, pillows or contact lenses.

 

Symptoms

·         Redness, swelling and itching in the eyes.

·         Eyes also feel watery in bigining of flu.

 

Cause

·         Conjunctivis cause by viruses, bacteria and allergies

 

Adenovirus

·         Adenoviruses are common viruses that cause a range of illnesses. They can cause cold- like symptoms, sore throat, bronchitis, pneumonia, diarrhoea and pink eye(conjunctivitis).

·         Adenoviruses are non-enveloped, double-stranded DNA viruses.

·         Discovered in the human adenoid tissue in 1953 by Rowe and his colleagues.

 

Treatment

·         Using artificial tears or even any lubricating eye drop.

·         A warm and cold compress will also help in giring relief from in inflammation and swelling.

·         Bacterial conjuctivitis can be treat with antibiotic eye drops

·         Allergic conjuctivitis can be treat with antihistamines.
