Quit India Movement

·         Launched on – 8 August,1942

·         All India Congress Committe passed resolution- Bombay session

·         Quit India Slogan coined by – Yusuf Meherally

·         Gandhiji call for 'Do or Die' at Gowalia tank maidan Maharashtra.

·         Aruna Asaf Ali Grand old lady known for hoisting the flag at Gawalia tank Maidan.

 

Causes

·         Indian Involvement in WWll without prior consultation.

·         Failure of Cripps Mission.

·         Shortage of Essential Commodities.

·         Growing Disillutionment with British rule.

·         Unfulfilled Promises of Autonomy.

·         Rise of Indian Nationalism.

·         8 August, 1942 – AICC passed "Quit India" resolution

·         9 August,1942 – "Do or Die" call of Gandhiji

·         10 August, 1942 – Arrest of Gandhiji

·         11 August,1942 – Mass protest & Strikes

·         14 August,1942 – British Authorities Declare QIM illegal

·         August,1942 – Continue of Protest Despite arrest

·         August,1943 – Some Leaders Release from prison

·         October,1943 – Britishers use Brutual force to supress

·         1945 – British Government Announced plan for Independence.
